Need Of Felting

My name is Rebecca Knell and I am a fiber artist. What *IS* a fiber artist, you may ask? According to WIKIPEDIA It’s an artist whose medium is a style of fine art which uses textiles such as fabric, yarn, and natural and synthetic fibers. It focuses on the materials and on the manual labor involved as part of its significance. Kinda fancy sounding! Basically I use fabric, wool, lace, yarn… etc to make my art. And what is my art? I make soft sculptured dolls and needle felted dolls, as well as animals.

I get my inspirations for all my crazy characters from the city I live in: NYC! It’s a great place to observe the styles and tastes of the people around me. It’s a city filled with people with their own sense of style! I soak it all in and out comes my colorful characters!

I also have a huge love of animals. I’ve always dreamed of living in or near an animal haven, but living in the city (which I love so much!) that’s most likely not going to happen. So I just keep creating them and make my own animal haven at home!

All my creations are one of a kind and made from the heart.

My goal here is to showcase my work, show you my process in making my creations, provide some tutorials, and share other peoples great work that I find inspirational! Let’s have some fun!

I am so bad with blogging

I know that I should write a blog entry at least 3 - 4 times a week. . Was never good with keeping diaries or journals. Wish I was. Maybe I’d remember more about me growing up if I did! I keep up my Facebook Fanpage pretty much.

Anyhoot!

I’ve been looking over my Etsy Shop this week. Tweaking the descriptions / titles of each doll listed to get them more noticed. Adding better pictures to some of them. Things like that.

Today I took down 2 dolls off my shelf that I have listed and am cleaning them up a bit. Kinda dusty from being on the shelves for a while. I should pack them up and keep them dust-free - but I enjoy seeing them out.

Looking at my cloth dolls that are lying on my bed right now, I realize I miss making them. I stopped once I picked up the art of needle felting. Partly because I got a job and bringing in a sewing machine wouldn’t work! But bringing in my needle felting supplies does! That’s where I do most of my needle felting! Maybe this summer I’ll start making them again. I have so much fabric in my work room and haven’t used much of it since needle felting.

Ok, off I go. Have a great weekend!

Rebecca
